Blinkey's Light Show

Boppy Owl, Fuzzy Batrick, and their friends are all inspired by my son's imagination. His sister, Sarah is the artist, who began drawing them after he described them to her.

Boppy flew low over the ground, looking for Fuzzy Batrick.  He knew that crazy bat was somewhere nearby, he just didn’t know where.  He looked in the trees, and then in the bushes.  No Fuzzy.  Then he heard the grass rustle behind him. Boppy narrowed his eyes. That sneaky bat was tip toeing through the field, hoping to pounce on the owl.  Boppy twisted in mid-air and caught Boppy by surprise.

“AAAAHH!” Then the were off again, zipping through the air.

“You can’t catch me,” Boppy laughed, flying under a branch. He flew over a pond and flipped some water toward Fuzzy.

“Hey!” Pickles hopped from his lily pad and chased after his two friends. “Ribbit, ribbit, wait up!”

“You can’t catch me,” Boppy hooted. He didn’t see the tree that was looming ahead.

“Watch out Boppy!” Fuzzy yelled.

“Look ahead!” Pickles croaked.

But it was too late. Boppy flew into the tree. Fortunately the leaves softened the blow.

“Are you alright?” Fuzzy asked his friend.

“Yes,” Boppy laughed, rubbing his head with one wing.

“What’s that?” Pickles asked. He was pointing to somewhere behind Boppy.

The owl turned his head to see what the frog was looking at. Twinkling in the distance was a series of lights. “The light show! We’re going to be late!”

Boppy and Fuzzy flew toward the meadow. Pickles hopped on the ground, trying to keep up. When they got there, all their friends were waiting.

“I thought you were going to miss the show,”Blinkey said, relieved. She didn’t want her friends to miss her first performance of the summer. All the fireflies took their places. One by one, they lit up the night.  Blinkey began to dance. Then the crickets began to chirp, adding their music to the show.

“Hey Boppy,” Fuzzy said, when the show was over. His voice was sleepy.

“Yes?” Boppy asked, yawning.

“Fuzzy tapped Boppy on the back of his head.” “You’re it!”
